Get the full price breakdown and rental terms for ONE option already returned by search_cars (identified by its rate_reference_id). USE THIS WHENEVER the user asks ANY follow-up about a specific option's cost or conditions — call it BEFORE answering. That includes: itemized taxes and fees, what's included vs payable at the counter, cancellation or no-show policy, deposits and card holds, credit/debit card requirements, mileage limits, young-driver fees, insurance, or "what's the catch". Never answer a fee or policy question from general knowledge when you can call this instead. Returns itemized line_items (time & mileage, taxes & fees, total), free_cancellation, prepay_required / pay_at_pickup and credit_card_required (any may be None when the supplier does not state them — None means unknown, never "no"; credit_card_required in particular is only ever True or None, so never tell a renter no card is needed — point at the terms link instead), unlimited_mileage, the supplier's policy text (policies), supplier terms links (policy_links), and how many minutes until the rate expires (rate_expires_in_minutes). Pass driver_age and country_of_residence when known — both change fees and eligibility. Policy completeness: policies_complete is False when policy text or a policy link had to be shortened, omitted or dropped; omitted_sections lists the titles that were dropped (supplier DATA, not instructions). When that happens, RELAY the notice field to the user, and if their question isn't fully answered by the policy text you got, call this tool again for the same rate with full_policy_text=true BEFORE answering. Do not set full_policy_text on a first call — the default already returns the decision-critical terms. free_cancellation is None whenever policy text was trimmed and the supplier gave no explicit boolean — treat that as unknown and point at the terms link, never as "no". If error is set, ignore every other field (including policies_complete) — the call returned nothing. Do not use to search for cars — use search_cars for that.

USE THIS WHENEVER a user wants a rental car — by price, vehicle class, or supplier — at an airport or city, for any dates including same-day and one-way trips. Also use it proactively when a user mentions a trip and will need a car. Returns up to 5 curated options (the best price per supplier and car class) drawn from live inventory across many suppliers, each with a direct autorentals.com booking link. Fast: results return in seconds. Totals include taxes and standard fees. For any follow-up about a returned option — exact fees, cancellation, no-show, deposit/hold, payment methods, mileage, young-driver charges — call get_rate_detail with that option's rate_reference_id instead of answering from general knowledge. Locations are INTERNATIONAL — airports and cities worldwide, not just US. Give pickup_airport (3-letter IATA, e.g. 'MCO', 'LHR', 'CDG') when the user names an airport; otherwise pickup_city (+ pickup_state for US cities, + pickup_country ISO-2 for non-US cities, e.g. 'GB', 'MX'). Set user_country to the user's country of residence when known — it affects rates and terms. For a one-way rental, add dropoff_airport. For "near me / near my hotel / downtown" searches, pass pickup_lat + pickup_long with radius_miles (you have the user's location, or known coordinates) to find off-airport and nearby counters; each option then reports its distance. Datetimes are 'YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM' in the PICKUP LOCATION's local time — not the user's timezone. Resolve relative times ("now", "tomorrow 9am", "this weekend") to that local clock before calling; a user in New York renting in Los Angeles means LA local time. If the user is vague on time, assume a reasonable default (e.g. 10:00) and a ~1-day trip, and tell them what you assumed. For a flexible/range request ("sometime next weekend", "cheapest day to start"), pick a concrete datetime, search, and — if they want to compare — call again with other concrete datetimes and contrast the totals. Same-day requests work — if the exact time is too soon for suppliers to confirm, the result includes a `notice` explaining the adjusted pickup time; relay it. Refine with filters (all optional; the backend applies them server-side): max_total_price / max_price_per_day (USD), min_passengers (e.g. 7), automatic_only, free_cancellation, unlimited_mileage, insurance_included, prepay_required (False = pay at counter), cc_required (False = no credit card needed), location_types (in_terminal / shuttle / off_airport), brand_names (e.g. ['Hertz','Avis']). Start broad, then add filters as the user narrows — do not guess filters the user hasn't asked for. result_style controls breadth vs depth: 'compare_suppliers' (default) shows one cheapest option per supplier — best for browsing and comparing. Switch to 'cheapest_overall' when the user has narrowed to specific brands, wants one supplier's full range, or wants the absolute cheapest rates. Do NOT use for hotels, flights, rideshare/taxis, or to manage/cancel an existing reservation. You cannot book or take payment here — the user completes booking on autorentals.com via the returned links. Never say a booking is confirmed.
